u$ Prison Deaths Death Toll 22 *
The united $tates, the biggest imperialist power in the world, is also the biggest imprisoner in the world. The u$ locks up a higher percentage of the Black population than South Africa did under the racist apartheid regime. People languishing in u$ prisons face some of the most brutal repression at the hands of the imperialist state. A combination of physical brutality, mental anguish and lack of health care mean that many never make it out alive.

Jerry Preyer, 45, of Pensacola was killed by two shots from a taser while being held in Escambia County Jail.

May 23, 2006: 1 killed
Lawrence Alvarado was shot by a prison guard while he and another prisoner attacked a third prisoner in the Corcoran SHU.

January 20, 2006: 1 killed
The Monterey County Sheriff's Coroner's Division confirmed Tuesday that Lawrence Patterson, 35, committed suicide at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad on Jan. 20. Patterson was found hanging in his cell, said sheriff's detective Tom Jenkins.
While many "suicides" in u$ prisons are actually homicides by the CO's, we can attribute all "suicides," alleged and real, to the imperialist state. In a system that served humynity people would be reformed in prison, to better contribute to society. What better condemnation of the u$ prison system than the number of people who would rather kill themselves than spend another day within its walls?

Heng Bong Kang was killed at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad. Officials have revealed little more than Kang's name and prison identification number

14 year old Martin Lee Anderson was brutally beaten by guards at the Bay County Sheriff's Office Boot Camp in Florida. The video of the attack shows guards choking, throwing, kicking and punching Martin. The brutality continues after he was apparently unconscious. Martin had just arrived at the Boot Camp and died that day in the hospital.

On Jan. 3, Allen Benti, 37, was killed in his cell at Salinas Valley State Prison. Prison employees said his cellmate, was the assailant. As long as they are in the state's hands, a prisoner's safety is the responsibility of the state. The imperialists would rather encourage violence and divisions than face a united front of the oppressed against their oppressors.

Two of the deaths were listed as suicide, two were reported as drug overdoses and the rest were listed as "natural." The states idea of a "natural" death is anything that can't be traced back to outright physical violence. Most of these deaths are premature due to neglect, torture, or lack of health care.

The mother of 24 year old Jason who died under what she calls "suspicious
circumstances" at Two Rivers Correctional Institution on June 21, 2004 is
looking for answers. Of course, prison officials told her it was a
suicide. She says she has been told of her son being "held down by guards
for an injection", and she needs to know more.
