Al-Aqsa Intifida (2000- )
On the sixth anniversary of the beginning of the second Intifada, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics released a report stating that 4,348 Palestinians had been killed so far in Palestinian Authority operated territories. (This number only did not include the latest string of I$raeli attacks that they call "Summer Rains," which began in June 2006 after the capture of an I$raeli soldier). This ongoing resistance by the Palestinian people was triggered by the visit of Ariel Sharon to the al-Aqsa mosque on September 28, 2000. The significance of the visit of this war criminal to such a holy site in the greater context of half a century of colonial occupation resulted in the beginning of the uprising. I$rael immediately made a strong show of military presence during and following the visit, leading to many skirmishes between I$raeli settlers and the Palestinian people.
The total number dead reported by an I$raeli Humyn Rights group who has done a comprehensive tracking of the deaths themselves is at 5113 as of the 6th anniversary of the Intifada. Their stats show that 4039 (79%) of the deaths have been Palestinians, 1011 (20%) were I$raelis and 63 (1%) were from other countries.

Since June 25, when they began "Operation Summer Rains", I$rael has killed 203 Palestinians and injured 800. 188 of the deaths were in the Gaza Strip where the attack was launched, while 15 were in the West Bank. In that total, 42 were children and 24 were biowimmin. The report also noted that some of the dead civilians were killed en masse, as entire families were killed during Israeli incursions or air strikes, such as the Hajaj, Abu Selmiyeh and Okal families.
