MIM on the World Hunger Situation

Hurricane Katrina:Imperialism is a public health disaster

Malnutrition/Lack of Health Care Death Toll 392,263,014 *

There is enough food to feed everyone in the world. There are enough resources to prevent diseases in the Third World that have been eradicated in the imperialist countries. Yet, in the profit-driven economy of capitalism, these basic resources never make it to millions of people around the world. There is absolutely no excuse for this suffering and these deaths, reaching millions each year.

Deaths Reported

From 1991 to 2000: 900,000 killed
An article in the December 2004 issue of the American Journal of Public Health shows that almost nine hundred thousand deaths of Black people could have been prevented between 1991-2000 had Blacks had the same health care and other conditions as Euro-Amerikans. In fact, the article's authors find that eliminating the disparity in death rates between blacks and whites can save more lives than developing better drugs among other things. This is just one small piece of the national oppression-related disparity in care that exists in the Amerikan health system and under imperialism in the united $tates.

8,000,000 killed per year from 1951 to 2000
In the last 50 years, almost 400 million people worldwide have died from hunger and poor sanitation, according to a BWI report. That's three times the number of people killed in all wars fought in the entire 20th century.
